What I learnt from Group Presentations
I thought it was so cool to see everyone's different presentations and how everyone used their topic with the prompt we were given. I had missed the last day of presentations, so I was excited to see how everyone was going to present. With this, everyone did a great job of teaching their topics, which after all was the whole point of the project. Something I feel the need to touch on is the propaganda presentation. The propaganda presentation was amazing, the presenter having so much excitement and knowledge on the topic made me eager to learn about it. The way he presented was engaging and people were fully locked in and listening.
Some of my favorite topics I learned about were confirmation bias, illusory truth affects, and the third person effect theory. I’m not too sure which group these presentations were in but these all stuck out to me.
I learned that confirmation bias is when people ignore things they do not want to hear because it is easier, and they would just prefer to accept their own opinions. Looking at both sides of the story can help people prevent having confirmation bias. This can affect your day-to-day choices by believing what you believe and can even help you achieve your goals quicker.
The third person effect is when people are influenced by the media rather than them being influenced by themselves. This can also tie into the social comparison theory, which is when people compare themselves to others rather than believing their own opinions. This affects everyone because people will believe whatever they see. Fake news is so big in today's world and is affecting this in a big manner.
Illusory truth effect is when we hear the same false information. This can affect anyone with social media or simply anyone with outsource to news information. This affects younger generations because we are on social media so much that it is easier for us to find this false information. Especially since the apps we use are also more likely to have made up stories and lies.
